Have At It: What should the DNR have done about Giggles the fawn?

MADISON — No one’s laughing over Giggles.

You know that scene in “Bambi” in which he and his mom are running from the evil Man and, suddenly, she’s gone, and then you — and Bambi — realize he’s been killed and, well, everybody cries?

Well, that’s basically what animal lovers say went down last month in Kenosha, with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources playing the role of “Man” and a fawn called “Giggles” stepping in as the ill-fated deer.

But wait just a second, the DNR says: We were just doing our job, upholding the law and protecting Wisconsin to boot.

Either way, the events of mid-July have set off a firestorm, garnering thousands of comments on the DNR’s Facebook page and even drawing the attention of liberal blog site Daily Kos.
