Here are the Top 34 WI Hospitals For Safety, Patient Experience

BROOKFIELD, WI — Last week, we profiled the worst hospitals in the state when it came to patient safety - including two that received a "D" grade for their efforts.

But now the good news, there are 34 hospitals in Wisconsin that were recognized by Healthgrades as excelling in at least one of two award categories. The 2019 awards recognized hospitals for patient safety and patient experience.

In a press release, Healthgrades said the awards “recognize the hospitals around the country that make patient safety a top priority and provide an outstanding patient experience.” Overall, 460 hospitals in the United States achieved the Healthgrades “Patient Safety Excellence Award” and 434 hospitals achieved the “Outstanding Patient Experience Award.”

In Wisconsin, 4 hospitals achieved the patient safety award and 30 hospitals achieved the patient experience award. There were 2 hospitals that achieved both awards.

Healthgrades says the hospitals that achieved the patient safety award are among the top 10 percent of all short-term acute hospitals that report patient safety data. By Healthgrades’ estimate, nearly 128,000 patient safety incidents could have been avoided if all hospitals performed similarly to the ones recognized for safety.
