From local fields to national fame, these stars got their start in Brookfield.

Sports run deep in Brookfield, and Brookfield Central High School has long been at the heart of it. It’s no surprise some standout talent once wore the Lancers uniform. Today we're celebrating five unforgettable athletes from Brookfield Central High School who made a name for themselves well beyond the hometown field.
1. Joe Thomas – Pro Football Hall of Fame Offensive Tackle (Cleveland Browns)
A dominant lineman at Brookfield Central High School, Joe Thomas went on to star at the University of Wisconsin, where he earned unanimous All-America honors and two First-Team All-Big Ten selections. Drafted third overall by the Cleveland Browns in the 2007 NFL Draft, Thomas anchored the Browns’ offensive line for 11 seasons. He was selected to 10 consecutive Pro Bowls and famously never missed a snap in 167 straight starts, an NFL record. 2. Kenny Harrison – Olympic Gold Medalist, Track & Field (Triple Jump)
Kenny Harrison, a Brookfield Central alum, is one of the most accomplished American triple jumpers of all time. After missing the 1992 Olympics due to injury, Harrison rebounded to win gold at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games, setting both Olympic and American records that stood for years. 3. Carol Ferch Rose – NCAA All-American Diver & Championship Coach
Carol Ferch Rose built an exceptional career as both an elite athlete and an influential coach. A Brookfield Central alum, she competed at the NCAA level, earning multiple All-American honors in one- and three-meter diving and was named Female Athlete of the Year twice during her collegiate career. Rose later became one of Wisconsin’s most respected diving coaches, guiding multiple state champions and earning Boys Diving Coach of the Year and Girls Diving Coach of the Year honors. 4. Brad Nortman – NFL Punter (Carolina Panthers, Jacksonville Jaguars)
Brad Nortman graduated from Brookfield Central High School before becoming a reliable punter at the University of Wisconsin. Known for his powerful leg and consistency, he entered the NFL and enjoyed a professional career with multiple teams, including the Carolina Panthers and Jacksonville Jaguars. 5. Steve Avery – NFL Running Back (Titans, Packers, Steelers)
Steve Avery attended Brookfield Central High School before embarking on a professional football career as a running back in the NFL. Playing from 1989 to 1995, Avery suited up for the Tennessee Titans, Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers, contributing as both a runner and special teams player during his career.
