Man, 70, Tried Dodging Amtrak Train In Fatal Crash: Report
On Tuesday, authorities identified the 70-year-old Brookfield man who died in a Monday evening train crash.

BROOKFIELD, WI -- Police say a 70-year-old Brookfield man died Monday when the vehicle he was driving was struck by an Amtrak train.
On Tuesday, authorities identified the man as Michael J. Hayden.
According to police, Hayden stopped his vehicle behind another vehicle at the rail road crossing at N. Brookfield Road and River Rd. at about 4:15 p.m. Monday.

According to a WISN 12 report, accident investigators said Hayden drove around the vehicle that was stopped ahead of him, and then tried driving through the opening between the two barricade arms, which were down and flashing warning lights.

The report stated that as Hayden drove his vehicle across the tracks, he was struck by the train which was driving west on the northernmost line. According to the report, Hayden's vehicle, a red minivan, was immediately crushed and pushed a half-mile down the rail line.
