Charges: Man Passed Worthless Checks at Brookfield Business
Man, 25, faces up to 18 months in prison, if convicted.

A 25-year-old New Berlin man is facing charges for allegedly trying to pay for merchandise with worthless checks at a Brookfield auto repair shop.
Joseph S. Platek was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court Tuesday with two counts of issuing worthless checks for allegedly trying to pay for services at , 16880 W. Greenfield Ave. If convicted, he faces up to 18 months in prison and $20,000 in fines.
According to the criminal complaint, Platek issued a check for $848.95 to Lutter’s on Dec. 20, but was turned down due to insufficient funds. Another check worth $848.94 allegedly issued on Jan. 21 was also returned with insufficient funds.

The complaint alleges a Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department deputy also tried on two separate occasions to serve a five-day notice to Platek, but was unsuccessful.
