One Dead In Police Chase That Ended In Crash
When an officer questioned the driver about the smell of marijuana in the car, the driver fled the traffic stop in a high-speed chase.

BROOKFIELD, WI β A police pursuit became deadly late Sunday evening after the occupants of a vehicle fled a traffic stop after the officer questioned the two over the presence of marijuana in the vehicle.
On Sunday evening, Sep. 24 at 11:45 p.m., a Waukesha County Sheriffβs Deputy conducted a traffic stop on a Black Hyundai for a traffic violation related to excessive speed at Barker and Bluemound Roads in the Town of Brookfield.

According to official reports, the deputy made initial contact with the male operator and sole occupant of the vehicle and detected the odor of marijuana.

Authorities say that when the driver was questioned about this, the operator fled eastbound on Bluemound Road at a high rate of speed.
Two Waukesha County Sheriffβs Deputies pursued the vehicle, but suspect vehicle lost control and crashed on Bluemound Road just west of Calhoun Road, according to offical reports.

Deputies attempted life saving measures however, the driver succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on scene. Both the City of Brookfield Police and Fire Departments arrived on the scene to assist.
The two deputies involved were both placed on paid administrative leave, according to standard procedure.
The City of Brookfield Police Department is investigating the incident.
