R.A. Smith National Provides Civil Engineering, Landscape Architecture & Surveying for Woodman's Food Market, Altoona, Wi
R.A. Smith National, a nationwide engineering and surveying firm, provided professional services to the newly opened Woodman's in Altoona.
R.A. Smith National — a nationwide, multi-disciplined civil and structural engineering and surveying firm — headquartered in Brookfield, Wis., provided civil engineering design, landscape architectural and surveying services to Building Systems General Corp., a firm based in Fitchburg, Wis., for the newly opened Woodman’s Food Market in Altoona, Wis.
R.A. Smith National’s services included civil engineering design, landscape architectural design and preparation of certified survey maps. The site’s elevation proved challenging to the design team, as it varied by as much as 40 feet between its highest and lowest points. This unique challenge required a balanced earthwork plan while also meeting the site’s design specifications.
The design team credits collaboration with the City of Altoona for a successfully designed regional stormwater pond on City-owned property. This pond serves both the Woodman’s development and the City of Altoona’s property to the west.
The 240,000-square-foot Woodman’s Food Market celebrated its grand opening on October 1. The chain’s newest location is near the River Prairie Drive and U.S. Highway 53 interchange. Woodman’s Food Market, Inc. is an employee-owned food store chain serving Wisconsin and northern Illinois with 16 food merchandising centers.
