Rescuers Save Life Of 3-Year-Old In Elm Grove Pool: Report

Police said the three-year-old Elm Grove child appeared to be in the water, alone and unsupervised, for approximately three minutes.

ELM GROVE, WI — Authorities in Waukesha County are investigating an incident that happened Wednesday at the Elm Grove municipal pool, saying that a three-year-old child survived a close call in the pool after being left unsupervised, and nearly drowning.

According to the Elm Grove Police Department, officers and rescue personnel were dispatched to the Elm Grove Village Pool, 13600 Juneau Blvd., on a report that a three-year-old child had been rescued by a lifeguard.

Police said the three-year-old Elm Grove child appeared to be in the water, alone and unsupervised, for approximately three minutes. Police said after floating into deeper water, the child became submerged repeatedly in the water. Police said the child eventually extended his arm out of water while being fully submerged. Police said lifeguards immediately saw what was happening.

Authorities said a lifeguard then entered the pool, and rescued the child from the water. Pool staff provided cardiac chest compressions. After a number of compressions, the child expelled fluids from his mouth and began breathing on his own.

Police said the child was transported to Children’s Hospital, by Elm Grove Emergency Medical Services.
