5 Things Parents Of Seniors Should Know

As our children grow into adults we sometimes think that there is so little left for us to do.

I talked with Mr. Eben principal of and here are his recommendations on how to avoid that senior slide.

  1. Know exactly where your child stands as far as graduation.  Be abreast of things like credits, fines, deadlines, etc.. You don't want to miss out in June because you didn't know.
  2. Don't let them take the easy road.  Seniors love to have "a kick back senior year."  There are two major problems with that philosophy: Colleges do not like it and the lack of rigor will hurt acceptance opportunities.  Also, too much idle/play time usually increases the chance of trouble finding you...you want busy seniors.
  3. Keep them involved in school.  Funny how seniors take this year and pull away.  They get jobs and spend less time at school.  It can lead to regret later.  Most importantly, the school has people there looking out for your kids, even the seniors.
  4. Talk to a counselor about financial aid.  You can help that critical issue along by arming yourself with information. Students will let this slide and lose out on money that can finance their dream.
  5. Pray a lot.
