60-Year-Old Racine Man in Serious Condition after Car Hits Semi

The vehicle he was driving was struck head-on by a semi truck near the intersection of Highway 38 and Nicholson Road earlier Monday.

CALEDONIA -- A 60-year-old Racine man is in serious condition after the vehicle he was driving was struck head-on by a semi truck near the intersection of Highway 38 and Nicholson Road earlier Monday.

According to a release from the Caledonia Police Department, officers responded to a serious injury, two vehicle accident on STH 38 and Nicholson Rd. Preliminary investigation disclosed that a semi-tractor and trailer was travelling east when a Ford Escape driven westbound by 60-year-old Racine resident Dean Roman, crossed the center line and struck the semi head on.

Caledonia police say Roman sustained serious injuries and was transported by flight for life to Froedert Hospital.

The operator of the semi, 51-year-old Ramon Sanchez-Hernandez reported minor injuries and was transported to Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Hospital in Racine.

Caledonia police are reporting that a significant amount of diesel fuel spilled and the Wisconsin DNR responded for clean-up. Caledonia police was assisted by Wisconsin Highway Patrol.

According to police, Highway 38 will be closed from Nicholson Rd to West River Road until Monday evening as crews clean the diesel spill.
