How have they made an impact?
Ed Larkin, or Mr. L, is known as the chess coach for RUSD. He teaches Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Chess as part of the RUSD Extended Learning Program. His goal is to make sure students learn problem-solving skills through the game of chess. Each student is gifted a chess board from Mr. L so that they can continue to learn and teach others the game of chess.
He continues to host Chess Piece ☮️ Summits throughout the school year, where he invites first responders to learn and play this intergenerational game from his students. He also hosts chess games with his ChessMates clubs at both the Racine and Kenosha public libraries. His passion for the game of chess and the lessons he teaches through SEL Chess have had a great impact on our community.
