
Traffic in Wisconsin can be hectic. So here's the scoop on which roads you may need to avoid in Kenosha, Racine and Milwaukee counties. Â To avoid delays, motorists are encouraged to seek information about work zones and detours from the following sources:

Kenosha County  Â
Name of Highway: WIS 75 Â

Location: WIS 50 to WIS 11
Schedule: May 5 to Sept. 23
Length of Project: 8.4 miles Cost: $3.35 million
Type of Work: Mill/pulverize and overlay sections of WIS 75, from WIS 50 to WIS 11. Several intersections will have geometric and drainage improvements. New signals will be placed at the intersection of WIS 50. The intersection of WIS 142 will have flashing stop signs installed. There will also be a number of miscellaneous improvements such as new beam guard, new signs and new pavement marking.  Â
Traffic Impacts: Road work will begin in early May, with work being done at intersections, with minimal impact to traffic. After school is dismissed in June, WIS 75 will be closed and a detour route will be selected. Traffic on WIS 142 will be allowed to cross WIS 75. The intersection of WIS 75/WIS 50/WIS 83 will also remain open. Â
Name of Highway: WIS 165 (104th Street)
Location: County ML and County EZ Intersections
Schedule: March 28 to Sept. 30, 2011
Length of Project: 0.72 miles
Cost: To be determined.
Type of Work: Reconstruct WIS 165, grading, storm sewer, dense graded base, concrete curb and gutter, concrete sidewalk, concrete pavement, storm water pond, landscaping, erosion control, pavement marking, street lighting, and incidentals. County EZ and County ML intersections are being converted to multilane roundabouts.
Traffic Impacts: Stage 2 will begin on March 28 and completed in early July. Stage 2 construction will involve the closure of the County EZ intersection with WIS 165 with construction ending 0.01 miles east of County ML intersection with WIS 165. There will be a posted detour; Eastbound traffic will travel north on Green Bay Road (WIS 31), then east on 75th Street (WIS 50), northeast on Roosevelt Road (WIS 50), east on 63rd Street (WIS 50), and south on Sheridan Road (WIS 32) to WIS 165. Westbound traffic will utilize the same detour route. Also, a local detour will be posted for the County EZ intersection; southbound traffic will travel southwest on Springbrook Road (County ML) and east on 116th Street to 39th Avenue (County EZ ). Northbound traffic will utilize the same detour route.

Milwaukee County Â
Name of Highway: WIS 100 (US 45)
Location: Bridges over Rawson Avenue (County BB) and approaches Schedule: May 16 to November 2011 (Southbound Structure and approaches); April 2012 to November 2012 (Northbound structure and approaches)
Length of Project: .26 miles
Cost: $5.9 million
Type of Work: The WIS 100 bridges over Rawson Avenue will be completely replaced, with increased vertical clearance over Rawson Avenue and increase width of roadway for the future expansion of WIS 100 to three lanes within this section. A shared use path and sidewalk will also be added to the bridge widths. Included will be MSE walls on all corners, new guardrail, roadway pavement approaches, curb and gutter, and storm sewer.
Traffic Impacts: Single-lane closures with cross-over in the median, and one lane of northbound and southbound traffic will be maintained on the same side of the road. In 2011, the northbound lanes will be used for traffic and in 2012 the southbound lanes will be used for traffic. Some minor median openings will be closed. During the 2011/2012 winter break (November to April) traffic will be back open to two lanes in each direction. Rawson Avenue (County BB) will be closed for some nights within the bridge limits. A detour will be in place from 10 pm to 6 am during this operation. The US45/WIS100 bridge headed southbound over Rawson Avenue will be demolished during evening hours starting Tuesday (6-14-2011) and finishing Saturday (6-18-2011). The set detour will be: eastbound traffic on Rawson Avenue should turn south on Forest Home Avenue, turn left on St. Martins Road, southeast to WIS100. From there, the detour is south on WIS 100 to WIS 36 (Loomis Road), then left (northeast) along Loomis Road until it intersects with Rawson Avenue. Westbound traffic should exit Rawson Avenue onto southbound WIS 36 (Loomis Road), then head southwest on WIS 36 to WIS 100. From there, the detour is to turn right onto WIS 100, left onto St. Martins Road, northwest on St. Martins Road to Forest Home Avenue, and right (north) to the intersection with Rawson Avenue. Â
Name of Highway: US 18 (Bluemound Road)
Location: 124th Street to Mayfair Road, city of Wauwatosa Schedule: May 24, 2011 to December 2011
Length of Project: 1.13 miles Cost: $5.6 million
Type of Work: Complete reconstruction of the roadway including new storm sewer, concrete pavement, traffic signals and street lighting and the construction of a new grade separated segment of the Oak Leaf Trail adjacent to Underwood Creek below US 18.
Traffic Impacts: On US 18, two lanes of traffic in each direction will be maintained during peak hours of travel. Temporary single lane operations in each direction may be conducted during non-peak hours of travel. Intersections at 124th, 121st, 115, 112 and 110th streets will remain open with protected left turn lanes except as required to facilitate construction. Right in/ Right outs will be maintained for the duration of the project except as required to facilitate construction at 109th and 108th streets.  Traffic continues to travel on two lanes in both directions utilizing the existing right lane and parking lane for construction of median crossovers, storm sewer, and temporary pavement to facilitate utility work. Â

Location: Â South and East Bay Street East Potter Ave. to South KK Ave.
Schedule: June 29- Oct 20, 2011
Length of Project: 1 mile
Cost: $1 million
Type Of Work: Resurfacing the existing pavement, storm sewer, concrete curb & gutter, sidewalk and pavement marking.
Traffic Impact:  This construction project will be staged. Keep open one lane of traffic in each direction all the time. Â
