The Choral Arts Society of Southeastern Wisconsin will be Twice Inspired on Sunday, March 11, 2012, 3 PM at First Presbyterian Church, 716 College Ave. The treasured Magnificat in D by J.S. Bach and Requiem by John Rutter will be performed by the sixty voices of CAS. Both works will feature chamber orchestra and vocal soloists Doug Clemons, Nancy Davis, Michael Mueller, Brianne Sura and Erin Sura.
Bach’s lively Magnificat is about to celebrate its 280th anniversary, and Rutter’s stunning and pastoral Requiem will celebrate its 28th anniversary. The works of Johann Sebastian Bach elicit the beauty and joy of liturgical music. His Magnificat in D is based on the canticle of Mary, and debuted in Leipzig in 1733. The music of John Rutter is heard in concert halls and cathedrals throughout the world. His anthem “This is the Day” was commissioned for the Royal Wedding in 2011. His widely performed and beloved Requiem debuted in 1985 at Lovers’ Lane United Methodist Church in Dallas, TX.
