Local, Healthy, Sustainable Food Systems: How the Food Choices We Make at the Grocery Store Impact our Health, our Environment and the Economic Vitality of our Community

All over the country, people are becoming increasingly aware that their food choices affect not only their health, but also the prosperity of their local communities. For those interested in learning more about the connection between healthy food and a strong local economy, Wild Root Market brings national expert, Mark A. Kastel to Racine on April 22.  As Co-director and Senior Farm Policy Analyst at the Wisconsin-based Cornucopia Institute, Kastel will speak about the direct and indirect payback for choosing local and organic foods in terms of superior health and savings for both our families and the healthcare system.

The event, free to the public, begins at 7:00 pm on Monday, April 22 at First Presbyterian Church, 716 College Ave in Racine.  It follows Wild Root Market’s annual Owners’ Meeting which starts at 5:30 pm.  The Owner’s Meeting will include the election of new Directors as well as an update on the status of the Market’s development.  The public is invited to attend either or both events.  There will also be a social period following Kastel’s presentation where attendees may speak with Wild Root Markets’ directors or the presenter.
