Looking for a new way to beat the winter blues? Consider snowshoeing, the fastest growing recreational winter sport, according to Snowsports Industries America (SIA). The reason for its popularity? It’s incredibly easy to learn, (experts say that if you can learn to walk, you can learn to snowshoe), relatively inexpensive, poses little threat of injury, and is a great form of exercise. Known to help maintain or improve cardiovascular fitness, the sport helps burn more than 600 calories per hour.
Renting snowshoes is a great way to discover if its for you. Riverbend Nature Center, located at 3600 North Green Bay Rd, provides aluminum snowshoe rentals for five dollars per person per hour. Hours are weekends from 10-2pm, and weekdays by appointment. Call 262-989-2243 and someone on the premise will be available to assist you.
