The Racine Raiders begin defense of their Mid-States
Football League (MSFL) championship against the Madison Mustangs. The Mustangs
moved from the Ironman Football League (IFL) to the MSFL in the offseason. The
Mustangs lost the IFL championship game to the Wauwatosa Spartans last season
but won five IFL championships in their time in the league. The Mustangs
compiled a winning streak of over 50 games before losing in the IFL
championship game last season.
The Raiders are 5-11 all-time against the Madison Mustangs
and 3-5 at home. The teams last played in 1974 at Historic Horlick Athletic
Field. The Raiders won 23-10 under head coach Warren Greco. In the first game
of that season, the two teams also met at Historic Horlick Athletic Field in a
non-league game and the Mustangs doubled up the Raiders, 34-17.
The new incarnation of the Mustangs came about in 1989 and
the Pardeeville Seminoles. They moved to Madison in 2001 and changed their name
to the Madison Mustangs in 2007.
