Racine County Free Medication Collection Scheduled

RACINE COUNTY -- On Saturday, October 22, the Racine County Sheriff’s Office and Central Racine County Health Department are planning a free household medication collection in conjunction with the National Prescription Drug Take Back Initiative Program.

Residents are invited to drop off any outdated or unused medication, including prescription medication. Event details are as follows:

The drop off is free of charge and confidential. Residents are asked to remove all packaging and bring pills in a clear plastic bag. Sharps or Biohazardous Material will not be accepted. The Prescription Drug Take- Back Day goal is to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposal of prescription medications, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of these medications.

You have the opportunity to safely dispose of your unwanted medications at no cost. Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Unfortunately, some medications may end up in area water systems or the hands of children. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet.

The safer, environmentally friendly method of medication disposal is through an official medication collection site. Spread the word to your family and friends. This is an important program that will help protect your health and protect our community and the environment.
