Racine YMCA Hosted Family Fun at Caledonia Community Center

Looking for a fun place to take your children, here's a good option.

In making an effort to introduce the Caledonia community to their programs, the Racine YMCA has begun sponsoring events at the Caledonia Community Center facility.

Family Fun Night's inaugural event was held Friday at the Community Center, 6156 Douglas Avenue.  There were board games, snack and crafts for everyone. YMCA staff-on-hand included Jen Eisel, of member services, and Kevin Grifin, of the Young Leaders Academy. An entire family can spend the evening competing and/or creating for just $10. A monthly event, the next Family Fun Night in Caledonia will be held February 25. Future plans for the evening include a Family Zumba night with glow in the dark accessories under the guidance of Zumba instructor, Seandra Cornelius.

Another offering, Sports Explorers, is a weekly program that gives children an opportunity to learn about and participate in a new sports activity every week on Wednesdays.

Senior citizens are invited to gather on Thursday mornings for coffee, cards and Kringles. While there is no game of choice, the Y staff is hopeful the group will decide on a favorite game (like bridge, pinochle, or cribbage) and then challenge their skills weekly. There is a $5 fee and the games run from 8 a.m. until noon (ages 60+).

The YMCA is building a new facility just south of Caledonia off 90th and US 20 in Mt. Pleasant, and Eisel is hoping the families in Caledonia will embrace the YMCA programs.  If you have any questions or suggestions, pleas call Eisel at (262) 634-1994, ext. 206.
