Store Owner Accused of Exchanging WIC Benefits for Cash

Narinder Singh a clerk at Baja's Supermarket, 2145 Mead Street, was taken into custody for WIC fraud.

MOUNT PLEASANT -- On Thursday August 25th the Mount Pleasant Police Department in conjunction with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services Office of the Inspector General took into custody Narinder Singh a clerk at Baja’s Supermarket, 2145 Mead Street, for WIC fraud.

An investigation by the WIC compliance inspector revealed Singh had been defrauding the WIC benefit program by exchanging money and other unapproved items for WIC benefits.

WIC, is a nutrition program for women, infants and children, allows pregnant women and new mothers to buy healthy foods and formula for their children.

The Wisconsin Department of Revenue Office of Criminal Investigation Alcohol & Tobacco Enforcement also assisted in the investigation.

Singh was transported the Racine County Jail and the follow charges were referred to the District Attorney office:
