The Country In Caledonia: The Schimanski Farm
The country may be shrinking, but this farm sticks to preserving it.
When I stopped and chatted with Sue Schimanski, 12620 Bell Road, she was out watering her beautiful flowers on her large property. Sue's barn, which is still on original log cross beams, now holds her collection of antiques and trinkets along with the tractors and farm equipment her six children used when they were growing up. Her children once used the barn to house and care for many animals of all types while they were in 4-H.
When Sue and her family moved to the area everything the eye could see was crop fields. Since then the fields have diminished, and houses have risen. Even though the country shrinks, Sue still knows how to enjoy herself. Originally there was a small water hole in their back yard that dried up every year, they then decided to widen and deepen it. Since then they have stocked it with enough fish to successfully teach her nine grandchildren how to fish.
