Think Pink: Breast Cancer Awareness Events in Southeast Wisconsin

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and whether you love to shop, attend events, walk or run, there are tons of different ways to support the cause. Check out the list below of opportunities to go pink in Southeast Wisconsin and beyond:

• The Susan G. Komen Foundation in Southeast Wisconsin's inaugural Survivor!Celebration will be held Oct. 24 at the Grain Exchange.
• Volunteer with the Wacoal Fit For the Cure (or attend an event for a bra fitting). Events are scheduled at Macy's at Mayfair Mall on Oct. 5, Boston Store at Bayshore Mall on Oct. 10, Boston Store at Mayfair Mall on Oct. 11 and Boston Store at Brookfield Square on Oct. 12 and 13.
• Wisconsin Breast Cancer Showhouseis holding its Pinktacular Fashion Show and Luncheon on Oct. 4 at the Italian Community Center. 
• Wisconsinmade.com will donate 10 percent of online sales made between Oct. 11 and 31 to Breast Cancer Recovery and the Wisconsin Breast Cancer Coalition.
• Empowering African-American Women in the Fight Against Cancer will be held from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Roma Lodge, 7130 Spring Street, Mount Pleasant. This is an annual cancer education and awareness program presented by the Jane Cremer Foundation.
• The $5 fee for drop-in class participation at Pewaukee's Aspire Dance Studio will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
• Classic Lanes in Greenfield will hold a Packers game day party with former Packers great LeRoy Butler on Oct. 21, with proceeds going to the LeRoy Butler Foundation. The foundation's mission is to help women going through breast cancer treatment obtain the assistance they need to focus on the job of healing versus the financial impact to their families.

There are even more ways to spread breast cancer awareness this month by supporting national organizations that are fighting for a cure.

Research centers like Susan G. Komen for the Cure are selling pink ribbon merchandise and it’s a twofer — retail therapy and donating to a cause that affects millions.

You can also support breast cancer research by affixing a special stamp to your mail. The U.S. Postal Service has been selling a stamp commemorating breast cancer awareness for the past 15 years. The agency has raised $75 million so far for research programs at the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Defense.

The American Cancer Society’s annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk is organized nationwide and so far more than 8 million people have walked for this cause and raised about $460 million.

And you can join people from four continents in a Race for the Cure event organized by Susan G. Komen For The Cure, or an Avon Walk For Breast Cancer event organized by the Avon Foundation for Women.
