City of EC says PFAS officially being treated by removal facility (gazettextra.com) — Eau Claire's new PFAS removal facility is now online, treating city well water and bringing contamination levels below federal standards. Officials say the $23.5 million project came in under budget, will allow most wells to return to service, and is designed for long-term testing and maintenance so residents can rely on safer drinking water for years ahead.
   

2. Three Eau Claire seniors semifinalists in National Merit Scholar program (weau.com) — Eau Claire families may want to celebrate three local high school seniors who've been named National Merit semifinalists, putting them among just 16,000 students recognized nationwide. The Eau Claire North and Memorial students now face an Oct. 7 application deadline, including an essay, for a chance at significant college scholarships and further honors.
   

3. Residents raise concerns over landfill company's bid to buy Eau Claire County forest land (weau.com) — Eau Claire County residents packed a Parks & Forest Committee meeting to oppose a landfill company's bid to buy 120 acres of county forest, raising concerns about wildlife habitat, recreation, and quality of life. Officials are studying environmental and economic impacts, must replace any sold forest land, and expect to present a detailed report at an October meeting before any decision.
   

4. Students research dog behavior (weau.com) — UW–Eau Claire students are teaming up with a local dog training facility to study how dogs respond to human social cues, like pointing, right here in Eau Claire. The long-running class project now adds a focus on canine personality, while also building connections between the university and community dog owners.
   

5. Express star Hollon Brock earns Rawlings Hitting award (leadertelegram.com) — A standout summer from Eau Claire Express slugger Hollon Brock just earned him a prestigious Rawlings Hitting Award for leading the Northwoods League designated hitters in batting average. The University of Montevallo player hit .357 with six homers and 51 RBIs for Eau Claire, helping secure the league's best record and a deep playoff run.
