1. Eau Claire's PFAS removal facility already removing contaminants ahead of final completion (wxow.com) — Eau Claire's new $20 million PFAS removal facility is already cleaning city drinking water and bringing contamination below federal standards, even before final completion. With in-house testing equipment on the way and shuttered wells expected to gradually return online, residents can expect more secure water supplies and faster monitoring as the system is fully finished this fall.
2. Blugold Marching Band invited to Macy's Parade (leadertelegram.com) — UW–Eau Claire's Blugold Marching Band, based in Eau Claire, has been selected from hundreds of applicants to perform in the 2027 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. About 400 band members learned the news at the Sonnentag Center, where leaders celebrated the chance to showcase their work nationally, supported by a $10,000 travel donation from Macy's.
3. Local hemp and CBD businesses say new federal restrictions could force them to close (weau.com) — A downtown Eau Claire cannabis café and dispensary owner warns that new federal limits on hemp and THC content could force his shop to close and cut off popular pain and sleep products. Another Wisconsin hemp business says the December 11 rules, which tighten definitions of legal hemp and ban many lab-made cannabinoids, may also shut down his CBD-focused operation.
4. Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation hosted economic summit at Pablo Center (weau.com) — Hundreds of business and community leaders from across Wisconsin gathered Wednesday at Eau Claire's Pablo Center for the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation's annual summit. Attendees shared ideas to strengthen local economies, giving Eau Claire residents a front-row seat to statewide discussions on business innovation, growth opportunities, and strategies that could influence jobs and investment in the Chippewa Valley.
5. PREPS: Memorial's Pongonis, Chippewa Falls' Schmitt set new Cardinal Invite meet records (leadertelegram.com) — Eau Claire athletes made a strong showing at the Cardinal Invite, with Memorial's Will Pongonis shattering his own meet record and Eau Claire North placing fifth in the boys race and sixth in the girls. Local volleyball teams, including Eau Claire Memorial, Regis, and Immanuel Lutheran, also saw a full slate of matches, giving fans plenty to track across the Chippewa Valley.
