• Wis. community starts petition to keep PD after city proposes disbanding it (police1.com) — Elk Mound officials are weighing whether to disband the village's own police department and instead contract with the Dunn County Sheriff's Office, a move some residents fear will hurt response times and community ties. A longtime resident has launched a petition, already with about 150 signatures, to urge the Elk Mound Village Board to keep a local police presence before its Oct. 5 meeting.
   

• Fatal crash occurred near Menomonie on Tuesday morning (gazettextra.com) — A fatal two-vehicle crash early Tuesday on Highway 12/29 in the Town of Elk Mound claimed the life of a 55-year-old Menomonie man. Dunn County authorities say his Ford Escape crossed the center line and hit a westbound Chevrolet Silverado, and multiple agencies including the Elk Mound Fire Department responded as the investigation continues.
