• EFD responds to Recycling Center fire (piercecountyjournal.news) — Ellsworth emergency crews recently contained a commercial fire at the Pierce County Recycling Center on North Maple Street after staff safely evacuated the building. Firefighters limited damage to a baler infeed conveyor, while multiple local agencies assisted and EMS evaluated three employees, none of whom required hospital transport. 
• Leonard Place receives Lifetime Achievement Award (piercecountyjournal.news) — A 1954 Ellsworth High School graduate, Leonard Place, has been honored with the 2026 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Bluebird Restoration Association of Wisconsin for decades of work supporting bluebirds and other cavity-nesting birds. Now 90 and living in Oshkosh, he emphasizes creating healthy habitat and credits his rural upbringing for sparking a lifelong passion for conservation.
