1. Former detective finds a new calling at Marian University (bnd.com) — At Marian University in Fond du Lac, former detective Ryan Dronek now teaches forensic psychology, giving local students hands-on crime scene experience in the campus Crime Scene House. After brain surgeries ended his law enforcement career, he shifted into full-time teaching, shaping courses, mentoring about 130 students a week, and helping guide Marian's future through university committees and innovative learning opportunities.
2. Fondy football turns grief into support for local cancer care Oct. 2 (bnd.com) — Fond du Lac High School's varsity football team will host Neenah on Oct. 2 for a "Tackle Cancer Together" night at National Exchange Bank Field, honoring loved ones affected by cancer. Players, families, and fans can participate in a pregame candle moment, wear cancer-awareness colors, and donate at the game or via Venmo, with proceeds supporting SSM Health Cancer Center in Fond du Lac.
3. Fondy FallToberfest returns Oct. 10 to Lakeside Park (fdlreporter.com) — Fond du Lac is gearing up for Fondy FallToberfest on Oct. 10 at Lakeside Park's Oven Island, featuring the Great Pumpkin Weigh-off with big cash prizes. Families can enjoy runs, wagon rides, trunk-or-treat, kids' activities, Oktoberfest games, live music, a biergarten with special brews, and plenty of food trucks in a free, all-day community celebration.
4. Fond du Lac farm stand short more than $1,000 after customers underpay (wbay.com) — A new self-serve farm stand in Fond du Lac discovered it was short about $1,200 in its first month because some customers underpaid for produce and goods. The family owners are asking neighbors to pay the full amount and may add more cameras, hoping to keep offering fresh, locally grown food to the community sustainably.
5. A Kettle Moraine day trip worth adding to your list (thenorthwestern.com) — Fond du Lac residents are just a short drive from the Kettle Moraine State Forest Northern Unit, where you can hike, paddle, ski, or simply enjoy fall colors shaped by ancient glaciers. The story highlights specific trails, scenic stops, and nearby Dundee eateries, plus notes that the Fond du Lac Public Library lends state park passes to help you explore affordably.
