2nd Annual “Kuts For Kids” to Benefit Autism Society of Southeast Wisconsin: Kwof and Hive Salons to Host Back-to-Back Events During Autism Awareness Month

Kwof Hair Salon and Hive Salon have joined forces to host the 2nd annual “Kuts for Kids” to support the Autism Society of Southeastern Wisconsin (ASSEW).  The kut-a-thon will take place at Kwof Hair Salon in Mequon, WI on Sunday April 22 and at Hive Salon in Brookfield, WI on Sunday, April 29. Participating stylists at both locations will be donating100% of proceeds from all services performed from 10am-6pm to ASSEW.  Appointments can be booked by calling 262-240-9878.

The inaugural Kuts for Kids held in 2011 at Kwof Hair Salon raised more than $4000.  Hive Salon participated in the event last year and was so moved by the outpouring of support for Autism from the community that they approached Kwof to expand the event to two days at two locations.

Being able to take Kuts for Kids to the next level has special meaning for stylist and Kwof owner Paul Vaughn whose son is on the autistic spectrum. “Given the overwhelming response we had last year, I’m proud to be joining forces with Hive Salon on this important event.  Here we are, in a competitive industry, stylists going to another salon for the day to work together to support such a worthwhile cause,” says Vaughn. “With both Kwof and Hive salons having family members who are on the spectrum, we understand first hand the difference community awareness and support can make for children with autism and their families.”

* Anthony Succa:  Kwof Salon

* Josephine Molina-Braier:  Hive Salon

* Chris and Sia Jifas: Hive Salon

ASSEW supports people with autism spectrum disorders and their families by increasing public awareness about the day-to-day issues faced by people on the spectrum, advocating for appropriate services for individuals across the lifespan, and providing the latest information regarding treatment, education, research and advocacy.  Recently released facts about autism are eye-opening:

 * About 1 in 88 children has been identified with an autism spectrum disorder.

*  More children will be diagnosed with autism this year than with AIDS, diabetes and cancer combined.

*  Autism is the fastest-growing serious developmental disability in the U.S.

“Given these alarming statistics, the need to support the Autism Society rings loud and clear,” says Sia Jifas of Hive Salon, who also has a child on the spectrum.  “We encourage our clients, friends --- anyone who wants to help these kids and their families --- to participate in Kuts for Kids.  Together, we can make a difference.”
