Fifth/Sixth Grade Team Number One in Nation, Sixth/Seventh Grade Team First in State
Both Bayside Middle School teams recently entered in the Knowledge Masters Open, an international academic competition, finished in unprecedented fashion. Both the fifth/sixth grade team and the seventh/eighth grade team took first place in the state. Not only that, but the fifth/sixth grade team was number one in the nation.
The Knowledge Masters Open takes place at each entered school by running on each school’s computers. This allows students the opportunity to compete in a large academic event without having to travel to a central site.

The international competition uses curriculum-based contest questions—100 for fifth/sixth graders and 200 for seventh/eighth graders—which must be completed in one session about two hours long. Team members can collaborate on answers, and can only use paper and pencils during the competition; no other resources are permitted.
There were a total of 210 fifth/sixth grade teams participating in the contest, and 508 seventh/eighth grade teams, including teams from China, Hong Kong, and Korea.
