The Brown Deer Police Department is proud to announce that Chaplain Rabbi Gil-Ezer (Glenn) Lerer, senior rabbi at Temple Menorah, was honored on March 14, 2012 by the International Conference of Police Chaplains (ICPC). Mr. Frank O’Laughlin, President of the Wisconsin Chapter of the ICPC, presented Rabbi Lerer with the 2012 William W. Wagner Excellence in Law Enforcement Chaplaincy Award. Attending the ceremony were Village of Brown Deer Manager Russell Van Gompel, Police Chief Steven Rinzel and Chaplain Coordinator Captain Robert Halverson along with many members of the Brown Deer Police Department and Village of Brown Deer staff.
Rabbi Lerer has served as Head Chaplain for the Brown Deer Police Department in Brown Deer, WI since 2002 and has been a member of the International Conference of Police Chaplains since 2005. In 2009, Rabbi Lerer served as the chairperson and guest lecturer at the ICPC Regional Training Conference in Milwaukee, WI.
Rabbi Lerer has served Temple Menorah since 1982 when he returned to Milwaukee following his ordination to share the pulpit with his father Rabbi Isaac Lerer, Z”L. Rabbi Gil-Ezer was raised in Milwaukee. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Northeastern-Illinois. In 1982, Rabbi Lerer received his rabbinical ordination and Bachelor of Hebrew Literature from the Hebrew Theological Seminary in Skokie IL. Rabbi Gil-Ezer is a past president of the Wisconsin Council of Rabbis, a current member of the International Conference of Police Chaplains and serves proudly as a Chaplain for the Brown Deer Police Department. Rabbi and his wife, Debbie, have five children; Ariella, Lytal, Yosef, Rachel and Isaac.
