Nicolet Art Students Garner 22 Scholastic Art Awards, One Wisconsin Association of School Boards Art Exhibition Award

Nicolet art students received 22 awards in the 2013 Scholastic Art Awards—Wisconsin Regional Competition and Exhibition held Feb. 2 at the Milwaukee Art Museum. 

Gold Key award recipients, whose artwork will advance to the national competition, included Sid Brod (photography), DeVante Coleman (photography), Robert Dietz (jewelry), Natalie Muenster (painting), Jordan Perry (painting), Brandon Poll (drawing), Laura Shires (painting), and Rhea Stark (drawing). 

Silver Key award winners included Gwen Davis (photography), Minlie du Plessis (painting), and Paulina Varela (painting). Receiving Honorable Mention awards were Maggie Beck (sculpture), Peri Beer (sculpture), Elizabeth Carey (sculpture), Gwen Davis (photography), Serena Dow (sculpture), Libby Geboy (sculpture), John Jaeckels (drawing), Gabe Katz (drawing), Jordan Perry (sculpture), Rhea Stark (photography), and Lizette Varela (photography).

Gold Key and Silver Key artwork will be on display at the Milwaukee Art Museum until March 17.                 

The Wisconsin competition and exhibition was the regional section of The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards national program conducted by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers for students in grades 7-12.  This year’s exhibition included works in 14 media categories selected from 1,724 individual entries by a jury of 24 artists, educators, and administrators.

 In January, Nicolet junior Carrie Trebian also scored an award in the 2013 Wisconsin Association of School Boards Art Exhibition by capturing second place for her oil pastel drawing exhibiting the theme “What is Worth Fighting For?”
