Schlitz Audubon Nature Center Awarded Prestigious Grant from the Wisconsin Coastal Management Program
Thanks to a grant from the Wisconsin Coastal Management Program (WCMP), Schlitz Audubon Nature Center (SANC) has developed two exciting new courses. Both courses support WCMP’s effort to expand upon Great Lakes education. The courses will be offered to elementary and secondary schools in southeastern Wisconsin during the regularly scheduled school year(s). In addition, special outreach and SANC on-site family events are being held to share the courses with diverse audiences and people of all ages. Contact information is provided below to schedule a program at SANC or at another venue.
The two courses are:
1. Lake Michigan: A Migratory Path to Survival – Students will learn how over 300 species of birds use the Lake Michigan Flyway, why they migrate, and how all of us can provide areas for safe migration in our own communities and backyards. Emphasis will be placed on highlighting ways to sustain and protect this great water resource and fertile habitat. SANC’s live Birds of Prey will be featured in this course and free-flown for all to see! Contact Diane Visty, Raptor Program Manager at dvisty@sanc.org for more information. We would love the opportunity to deliver this program at your location or for you to visit SANC for an on-site class. Contact Carol Thomas at (414) 352-2880 ext. 224 for pricing or to schedule your visit.

Students will get an up-close and personal experience with our Great Lake, build a watershed on the beach, learn about water cycles, pollution and prevention, and discover the importance of preserving and protecting our Great Lake. The course is packed with fun, interactive learning activities to teach and inspire the stewards of today and tomorrow to take care of our Great Lakes. Contact Jessy Knox, Elementary Education Program Manager at jknox@sanc.org for more information. To schedule your class for an on-site program, Contact Carol Thomas at (414) 352-2880 ext. 224. Accommodations can also be made to visit an off-site venue. Please inquire with Carol Thomas for further information.
