Wisconsin Federal Junior Duck Stamp Exhibit on Display at SANC

A traveling exhibit featured the first, second, and third
place winners from the 2011 Wisconsin Federal Junior Duck Stamp Exhibit is now on display at the through Jan. 5. The exhibit is located in the
Great Hall of SANC and is free and open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

This year, 833 students from 49 schools throughout the state of Wisconsin submitted entries into the contest. Students ranging in age from six years old (first grade) to high school students submitted work of professional quality. The art is judged on four age classes and the best of
show is selected from the first place entries in each of those classes.

The Federal Junior Duck Stamp Design Contest is the culmination of a year-long Junior Duck Stamp conservation curriculum used by educators across the nation. Each state hosts competitions in February through mid-August, where Junior Duck Stamp design entries are judged by a group of individuals active in the local wildlife art community.

This year’s winner of Wisconsin’s Best of Show in the Federal Junior Duck Stamp contest is 15-year-old Drake Schlosser of Rubicon, WI. Schlosser’s acrylic and colored pencil portraits of a pair of red-breasted mergansers competed for the title of Best in Show held at the John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge in Philadelphia. This was Schlosser’s second best of show win for the state of Wisconsin.

SANC has served as a hosting site to display the featured works of art for the Wisconsin Design Contest for several years. For a schedule of traveling display locations or for information and entry forms for the 2012 contest, please contact the Necedah National Wildlife Refuge at 608-
565-2551.
