Bites Nearby: Nothing Beats a Hot Cup of Coffee and a Filling Breakfast
Maxfield's and their famous, fresh squeezed orange juice.
, in Bayside, is a breakfast lover's haven. Only open from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., but seven days a week, breaksfast and lunch are Maxfield's specialties. Despite the name, Maxfield's serves way more than just pancakes.
Arriving here just minutes after opening, about 6:15 a.m., the only sound is a few dishes being moved around in the back of the kitchen. A couple of locals read the paper, beginning their work day. The coffee is served hot and the food is really fresh; what else can you ask for when it comes to breakfast and being up before the sun? Fresh squeezed orange juice.
Maxfield's features fresh, and I mean, fresh, straight from the rind orange juice. It even has a little pulp left in it. This comes with most breakfast dishes, but if yours happens to be exempt, request a glass of their not-from-concentrate orange juice anyway. Your taste buds just may smile back at you, even if the sun isn't up yet.

For breakfast, I kept with my recent health kick and ordered the Maxfield's Slim and Trim. Egg whites, spinach and mushrooms all fluffed together in scrambled eggs style. A side of canteloupe, watermelon, an orange slice and grapes fill the other half of this monstrous plate. A toasted english muffin and that fresh squeezed orange juice I've been gushing about make the full entree.
The crowd is usually a lot of local residents, many of whom will walk to the restaurant now that winter's on its way out. On my many trips to Maxfield's, I've even seen a handful of village officials.

But as I alluded to above, the restaurant doesn't just do pancakes and breakfast. An extensive lunch menu is included as well. A whopping 10 different salad choices, stuffed tomatoes, homemade soups, gyros, a roast lamb sandwich, Mediterranean burgers and monte cristo sandwhiches are just a small selection from the menu.
The prices are definitely reasonable as well, with the Slim and Trim breakfast at $6.99, salads from $9.99 to $12.99, and burgers around $7.99.
