Brown Deer/USM Swimmers and Diver Finish in Top 20 at Tournament

BD/USM diver and swimmers make it to state meet in Madison.

Three students, senior Lauren Isnard, senior Caroline Bridges, and sophomore Kimberly Roos, completed the season for the Brown Deer/University School co-op girls swimming and diving team by competing at the WIAA Division 2 Girls State Swimming Tournament in Madison on Nov. 5. 

Isnard took part in the 1 meter Diving competition. She finished fourth in the event with 326.45 points. The winner of the state tournament was junior Rachel Stave of Whitnall who compiled 444.20 points. Isnard was mentally tough throughout and very steady and maintained her focus. She was so happy to finish her career this way.

Bridges swam in the 50 yard Freestyle race and the 100 yard Freestyle race. Bridges finished in 10th place in the 50 Freestyle race. She swam the distance in 24.68 seconds. Alli Bellford, a senior from New Berlin Eisenhower won the state title by finishing in 23.43 seconds.

Bridges took seventh place in the 100 Freestyle. She beat her seed time in the 100 Freestyle and finished higher than her seed position.She swam the finals race in 53.74 seconds.  Shorewood sophomore Kristen Malone won the event with a time of 51.33.

Roos, posted her best high school times in the meet.  She was the number 1 seed in the 500 Freestyle race and took fifth place in the finals with a time of 5:10.69. Madison Tew, a freshman from New Berlin West, won the finals and the state championship in the event with a time of 5:02.95.

Roos also competed in the 200 yard Freestyle event. She dropped from 11th to sixth seed for the finals in the event after she won the first heat in a thrilling come from behind race. She placed sixth in the finals with a time of 1:57.67. Tew was also in the race, and became the state champion by winning the finals with a time 1:52.42.

Although no other members of the BD/USM qualified for the tournament, Isnard, Bridges and Roos did receive points for the team. The trio compiled 61 team points. As a result, BD/USM finished 14th in the state tournament. Milton was the trophy winner with 236 points. Shorewood finished second with 193 points and DeForest took third with 159 points.
