Nicolet Athletic Update: 2.18.13

The NHS Boys Basketball team: The boys basketball team took it on the chin against the #1 Germantown Basketball team at home last Friday.  After playing their closest conference game of the year against Nicolet last time out, the Warhawks played with revenge on their minds and beat the Knights for their 50th consecutive win dating back two years.  Despite the loss, the Knights head into the WIAA playoffs with confidence having won 14 of their last 18 games.  The Knights (#3) open up the WIAA playoffs with a 2nd round Regional game at home on Friday vs. Grafton (#6) at 7pm.  A win would likely send them to Waupun High School for a Regional Final game against Waupun (#2) on Saturday at 7pm.  If (when) the Knights defeat Grafton on Saturday, a Fan Bus will leave Nicolet at 5pm on Saturday and head to Waupun.  Bus reservations are required.  The sign up is in the Athletic Office and the cost is just $5.

The NHS Girls Basketball team: The Lady Knights lost to Germantown 61-55 last Friday.  Briana Gray had 17 points, Katherine Richter & Brooke Silverberg each had 9.  The Varsity (7:30 PM) and JV (5:45 PM) host West Allis Central tonight.  All three team host Whitefish Bay on Thursday.  JV & Freshmen have a special start time (5:30 PM).  The seniors will be honored immediately following the the JV game (roughly 6:45  PM).  The Nicolet Girls are the 4 seed going into next week's Regional Game.  The girls will host West Bend East on Friday, March 1st at 7:00 PM.

The NHS Wrestling team: On Saturday, the 7 members of the Nicolet Wrestling team went to Oconomowoc High School looking for a state berth.  Mohamed Dawod and Jordan Fisher ended up in 4th place on the day while Nate Patton wrestled his way to 3rd place.  Unfortunately, the Knights will not be represented at State this year, however, the very young Nicolet team found much success on the mat this year and has a very bright future. Congratulations and good luck to our 2 seniors Nate Patton and Jordan Fisher.  Both have had successful wrestling careers and have shown a tremendous amount of leadership this year.

The NHS Boys Swim team: On Saturday, the Boys Swim Team sent 3 divers and 2 swimmers to the WIAA state meet at Madison last weekend.  Evan Siverhus made the awards stand placing him 4th in diving.    Kyle Siverhus improved on his last year's placing and Jamie DeGraff got to enjoy the competition at this level.   These three seniors will be missed.   Sophomore Michael Mills and freshman Jeremy Moser gained some valuable experience that will be of benefit in future state meets.

The NHS Girls Hockey Co-op with University School: The Wildcats defeated the Xavier Co-op of the Fox Cities 8-1 in the WIAA State Tournament Sectional 4 Regional played at University School last Thursday night.  Senior Captain Laine Tomesch started the scoring barage slapping in a goal in the first period.  The win puts the Wildcats in the Sectional Semi-Final game at 7pm Tuesday night at USM.  A win on Tuesday would earn the team a Sectional Final game at Beaver Dam on Saturday night at 7pm vs. the Arrowhead/Brookfield Central winner.

The NHS Boys Hockey Co-op with Whitefish Bay HS: The boys hockey team defeated Janesville 6-0 with Nicolet Junior goalie Sean Leahy again pitching a shutout.  The win advances the 4th seeded Storm to the Sectional Semi-Final Tuesday night vs. Kettle Moraine at Naga Waukee, time TBA.  A win on Tuesday would put the team in the Sectional Championship game at 6pm on Saturday at Delafield.

The NHS Gymnastics team: The Girls competed and finished 5th in the North Shore Conference Meet at Homestead last Saturday in their final tune-up before the WIAA Sectional meet at Arrowhead this Saturday.

The NHS Ski team: The boys and girls ski team members: Joe Tarnowski, John Jaekels, Nathan Franz, Brody Wallace, Charlie Rossman, Charlie Dickson, Robbie Abrahamian, Megan McMahon, Ginny Groh, Callie Dickson, Stephanie Larson, Kristen Maling, Ellie Mittlestadt and Katie Braun headed to Lacrosse for the State Ski Championships yesterday and will compete throughout the day today.  The JV teams will compete in the Conference championships at Alpine Valley on Thursday at 5pm to close out the Ski season.

The NHS Varsity Cheerleaders competed in the Northside Valentines Cheer-Off on Sunday, February 17th and took 1st place while scoring nearly perfect in all categories including level of difficulty and cheer choreography. The team will be performing their routine at half-time during the home girls basketball game on Thursday, February 21st against Whitefish Bay. The team will be traveling to Sun Prairie, WI for the Cardinal Classic on March 3rd to conclude the season.

The NHS Booster Club:  Next meeting is Wednesday, March 6th at 7pm in room B113.  Please see the attached Booster Club announcement of their online spirit wear sale!

Senior Athletic Scholarship applications are now being accepted.  The general form makes you eligible for all scholarships available with the exception of the Padway Scholarship, which requires a separate form.  The forms are available in the athletic office and online.  Deadline is 4pm, Friday, February 22nd.
