Safely Light Your Way during Power Outages – Do Not Use Candles

Have flashlights, battery powered lighting, such as “battery operated” candles, and extra batteries ready in case of a power outage. 

The and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommend regular candles not be used during power outages.

According to the National Fire Protection Association, on average, a candle fire in the home is reported to a U.S. fire department every 30 minutes.

What is a battery operated candle?

A battery operated, or “flameless” candle is a safe alternative to a regular candle.

• Looks and feels like a regular candle.
• Illuminates like a regular candle. Some flicker like regular candles.
• Does not contain a flame.
• Battery operated.
• Can be purchased most everywhere regular candles are sold.
