Wildcats Bop Ozaukee in Boys Lacrosse
The University School boys lacrosse team defeated Ozaukee 8-2 Friday.
The University School boys’ lacrosse team defeated Ozaukee 8-2 Friday afternoon at USM.
The Wildcats zoomed to a 6-0-halftime lead and cruised to their first victory of the early season.
USM’s head coach Greg Roberts said, “Ozaukee was a well-coached team that had sound lacrosse fundamentals. They played hard and won nearly every face-off, which after our first two games, seems to be one of the weaknesses that we need to correct. We seemed to play with much more intensity than we had showed in our previous game. We focused on the little things such as groundballs, passing, and moving our feet, which seemed to help us get into the flow of the game. I was proud of the way our young gentlemen rebounded from our last game and proud we got a win, not only in our first home game, but also in the first boys lacrosse game ever played on Liz Krieg Field.”

The teams stayed tied through almost all of the first quarter. With just .8 seconds left in the quarter, however, Zach Erickson rifled an outside shot into the Ozaukee net to give the Wildcats their first goal of the season.
Erickson’s score seemed to open the goal-scoring gates for USM. The Wildcats begun to circle the Ozaukee net like sharks around a raft in the second quarter and tallied five goals. Jeff Walters scored all five. He put in three by barging his way toward the Ozaukee net from in close. The two others were scored when Erickson sprinted the ball down the right side then fed it back out to Walters, who was roaring down the center like an Indy car on a straightaway.
