“I'm really pleased with the efforts of our athletes this evening. We finally got some good track meet weather and took advantage of the opportunity to compete well in a number of events.”

Eason went on to comment on USM’s fine showing in the boys meet.  “Once again, we had great results out of our throwers. Neal Brethauer continues to improve and to throw with consistency, as his wins in the shot and discus demonstrate. Dan Taylor is right there with him. Their 1-2 punch in the throws really sets us up well as a team in all our meets. I also like that our relays are finally settling down with handoffs and consistent splits. We need to really improve our times as a team in the sprint relays especially, but to feel confident with handoffs at this point in the season is a real bonus. Chris Cooper had a banner night for us in the jumps and open events. To win the 400 in his first race at that distance shows a great combination of tenacity and athleticism. Jack Hiller continues to be reliable for us at that distance, as well. Our boys’ team is a little banged-up right now. After Brown Deer this coming Friday, our runners will really benefit from a weekend and a week of practice to shape up.”

Eason also had praise for the USM girls’ team. “Our girls continue to put together great finishes in the open running events. Emma Kulick ran a nice race to win the 1600. She then turned right around to do the same in the 800.  Alanna McCauley ran strong tonight in the open 400 and broke out an insurmountable lead to get us started in the 4x400. Turquoise Baker looked very comfortable in the 200 for the first time this year, and Janel Lucas came in right behind her with a solid, super competitive finish to muscle into second. Her effort in the last 20 meters of that race gave us some spark to finish out the night. I love the effort our girls’ team puts in; even though we aren't able to fill all the relays, they run as a team in the open events and throughout the meet.”

The Wildcats had several top finishes in the boys meet.

Neal Brthauer and Dan Taylor finished first and second respectively in the Discus.  Brethauer threw the disc 137’02” and Taylor threw it 129’00”.

The same pair also finished first and second in the Shot Put.  Brethauer’s put went 42’01” and Taylor’s went 37’08”.
