The Settlement Cook Book Project Pop-Up Exhibit and Recipe Sharing Kick-Off

Join Jewish Museum Milwaukee (JMM) and the Milwaukee County Historical Society (MCHS) for an exciting new collaborative multi-program series exploring and celebrating the omnipresent publication, "The Settlement Cook Book", authored by Lizzie Black Kander to assist immigrants from diverse backgrounds with cultural assimilation in America.

To get the festivities started, celebrate the May birthday of noted "Settlement Cook Book" author, Lizzie Black Kander, by bringing your families’ editions of the beloved publication and other cook books or recipes which have become part of your culinary customs. Share stories about special dishes which have become part of cherished traditions passed from one generation to the next. View Ms. Kander’s personal copy of "The Settlement Cook Book", with hand-written notes on the margins, which is part of the Milwaukee County Historical Society’s collection, as well as the ‘pop-up’ exhibit including additional artifacts and materials about Lizzie Black Kander’s life and legacy from the archives of both the JMM and the MCHS.
