Girls Basketball Team Still Undefeated

Team hands conference rival Whitefish Bay its first defeat.

The girls basketball team remained undefeated after at home last Friday 40-34.  The No. 1-ranked Knights are now 13-0 (7-0). Against the Blue Dukes, senior Brittney Fair scored a team-high 22 points while fellow senior Courtney Smith poured in 10.  

Briana Gray, Sara Travia and Lanoira Duhart rounded out the rest of the scoring. This week, the Lady Knights will travel to Homestead on Friday for a conference showdown with the Highlanders.  The frosh team will host Arrowhead at 7 p.m. on Wednesday night in the varsity gym.

The boys basketball team lost on the road last Friday at Whitefish Bay.  The short-handed Knights played tough for awhile but eventually fell 72-59.  Eugene Bonner again led the team with 17 points.  Gregg Pigg had 13, Tyler Miller and Corey Smith each added 10.  Nolan Wagner and Brandon Kappel also scored. This week, the boys will travel to Waukesha North on Tuesday night and host Homestead on Friday.

The boys swim/dive team will compete next on Thursday when it hosts Whitefish Bay.

The wrestling team recently competed in the Racine Case Eagle Invite and the Knights had a strong individual and team showing with 8 wrestlers, 4 of which advanced to the finals.  Jon McKay and Kenondre Walton-Cooper each captured the championship in their weight class.  Nate Patton and Jordan Fischer both took second on the day.  Also placing in the top 5 were Jalen Holliman, Jack Kalloch, Dan Isaacson and Bryan Dineen. Overall the team finished fifth with just eight competing wrestlers.  The team will be busy this week hosting Germantown on Tuesday night and traveling to Whitefish Bay on Friday.  The JV team will also compete in an invite at WFB on Saturday.

The Nicolet/University School girls hockey co-op team split a pair of games this past weekend in the Pines Classic Hockey Tournament, losing on Friday to Hayward 4-3 in overtime but rebounding to win 1-0 over Northland Pines on Saturday.  The team is now 13-6-1 and will take to the road again on Friday to play a 7 p.m. game at Black River Falls.  On Saturday, the team will play at Onlaska at 1 p.m.

The Nicolet/Whitefish Bay/Shorewood boys hockey co-op team will next skate on
Tuesday at MSOE's Kern Center against Kenosha at 6:15 p.m. with the JV skating at 8:15 p.m.  On Friday, the pep band will play during the varsity game as the team takes on Baraboo at the Kern Center at 6:15pm (JV 8:15 p.m).

The gymnastics team competed Jan. 14 in the Homestead Invitational that included 11 teams and 55 gymnasts.  Jessica Kloehn took first on floor with a 9.55.  Jessica beat out last year's Division 1 state champion as well as many others who were state qualifiers last year.  The score of 9.55 was Jessica's personal best and a top 2 on the Nicolet gymnastics record board.  This week, the team compete at Whitefish Bay in a conference dual meet on Thursday and in an invitational at Kenosha Tremper on Saturday.

The ski team will compete in a race on Thursday at Sunburst at
6 p.m.

The next Nicolet Booster Club Fundraiser will be at in Fox Point on from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 6. Twenty percent of all sales during this time will be donated to Nicolet Athletics.
