MADISON – A Milwaukee Democrat is proposing legislation to free Brew Citytaxpayers from paying the salary and fringe benefits of that city’s police union “liaisons.”
State Sen. Tim Carpenter, D-Milwaukee, said city taxpayers should not have to pick up the tab for Milwaukee Police Association lobbyists and contract negotiators – a mandate that he says costs taxpayers $215,000 a year.

“These mandates apply only to the City of Milwaukee and to no one else in the entire state. These mandates have cost Milwaukee property taxpayers millions of dollars since they were enacted under Gov. Tommy Thompson’s administration as a payoff to the Milwaukee Police Association,” Carpenter said in a statement introducing the Milwaukee Taxpayer Protection Act.
The MPA said Carpenter has his facts wrong and is just grinding a political ax.
