Nicolet Rec Dept Offering American Red Cross Classes

Babysitting Basic
The purpose of this course is to provide youth who are planning to babysit with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly give care for children and infants. Skills include a guide to leadership, the business of babysitting, being safe and sound on the job, understanding kids from 0 to 10, caring for kids from feeding to bedtime, and it’s an emergency! Must attend both days, complete all skills with competency. Please bring a notebook and pen. Reduced fee does not apply. Registration deadline is a week before class begins. An email will be sent prior to start with details of class requirements/prerequisites due prior to class start. All booklets for the Nicolet Recreation Department American Red Cross programs are online and should be read & brought to class on a tablet or laptop. Certifications will be emailed directly from the American Red Cross to your personal email. No duplicate emails please. Once a customer is registered for an American Red Cross class, refunds cannot be provided due to the costs, supplies and preparation associated with the class. Household credits are an option if canceled in advance of class start.

Lifeguard Recertification - Blended Learning Format
This course is for active lifeguards currently working, and have a current certification or one that is 30 days or less expired. (no exceptions permitted). Must email your certification prior to class to cindy.schlidt@nicolet.us Must pass:
• Prerequisite 1: Jump in, submerge, resurface and swim 150 yards continuously, tread water for 2 minutes, and then swim 50 more yards. While swimming, you must keep your face in the water and demonstrate good breath control. You may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. Swim goggles are allowed. When treading, you must use only your legs.
• Prerequisite 2: Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds. Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. Your face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed. Surface dive (head-first or feet-first) to a depth of 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object. Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on your back to return to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping your face at or near the surface. Swimming the distance underwater is not permitted. Exit the water without using a ladder or the steps
• Prerequisite 3: Must complete all rounds of online work prior to the start of class.
