MADISON – With a budget showdown looming, Wisconsin’s Legislature is a lot like pop legend Lionel Richie’s second solo album: It “Can’t Slow Down.”
As the clock ticks down on a cantankerous biennial budget session, Republican lawmakers pushed forward a flurry of bills – from restrictions on abortions to limiting who can apply for unemployment benefits. While the latter bill picked up bipartisan support in the Assembly, the Legislature’s real and rare act of togetherness was in the passing of legislation that doubles campaign contributions.

And Gov. Scott Walker took another round in the seemingly unceasing wave of partisan criticisms after he dumped his student nominee to the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents.
