MADISON – Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, R-Rochester, on Tuesday morning said the state budget would be debated in the light of day. That day will have to wait until Wednesday.
More than six hours after roll was called in the state Assembly, lawmakers recessed after having spent just 15 minutes of discussion on the budget – at least on the floor.

A “technical amendment” that Vos said would fix minor provisions in the budget wasn’t finished until nearly 6 p.m., with just Vos and Democratic Rep. Brett Hulsey, D-Madison, having spoken by the time lawmakers called it a day.
Democrats caucused while many Republicans hung out on the floor most of the day Tuesday. Lots of Smartphone scrolling and newspaper reading in the mostly empty chamber.

Regardless of the delay in the scheduled 12 ½- hour debate, Majority Leader Scott Suder, R -Abbotsford, said a vote on the budget would take place at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
