1. New mentoring center to open for Big Brothers Big Sisters wait list (wbay.com) — A new $2 million mentoring center is being built at 540 N. Broadway in downtown Green Bay to serve kids stuck on the Big Brothers Big Sisters wait list. Opening in November, it will combine offices with activity spaces, STEM learning, and small-group mentoring so local children feel supported while they await a match and businesses can volunteer more easily.
2. UA Local 400 apprentices learn on the job while helping build homes for veterans in need (fox11online.com) — On Green Bay's east side, 21 tiny homes are being built to provide housing for veterans in need, with UA Local 400 apprentices donating their pipe work. The project, led by Veterans 1st of NEW, gives trades students valuable hands-on training while directly improving local veterans' chances of getting stable, affordable housing in the community.
3. Local couple remembers 9/11 and the firefighter who saved them (wbay.com) — In Green Bay, the annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Lambeau Field invites thousands to walk the equivalent of 110 stories in honor of fallen firefighters. Local couple John and Donna Knealy climb in memory of FDNY Lt. Kevin Donnelly, whose brief encounter helped them escape the North Tower, and they're determined to keep sharing his story with the community.
4. Popular comedian Shane Gillis makes surprise visit at Green Bay restaurant (wearegreenbay.com) — Staff and diners at Green Bay's Black Iron Bar & Grill got an unexpected celebrity drop-in when comedian Shane Gillis and friends stopped by after the Lambeau Field college game. The group praised the local spot's food and drinks, giving its buffalo wings an enthusiastic on-the-record endorsement.
5. Green Bay beer sales help support tornado victims (wearegreenbay.com) — A Green Bay brewery is pouring a special "Fox Valley Strong" beer to raise money for neighbors hit hard by July's EF-3 tornado. Stillmank Brewing and seven partner breweries will donate proceeds to United Way Fox Cities, turning local taproom visits into direct relief for affected families.
