New Day Women's Center in Green Bay re-opens in new building (wearegreenbay.com) — New Day Women's Center has reopened in a larger building in Green Bay's Broadway district after storm and flood damage forced it from its previous space. The expanded location lets staff better serve local women while staying accessible to neighborhood guests, thanks in part to support from On Broadway Inc. Leaders say the disruption deepened their understanding of what many clients experience.
2. Brown County proposes 2027 budget with record-low property tax rate, major projects (fox11online.com) — Brown County's proposed 2027 budget, unveiled in Green Bay, would cut the property tax mill rate to what officials call a record low while paying down millions in debt. For Green Bay residents, it outlines major road and bridge work, South Bridge Connector progress, new flood monitors on the East River, and added mental health and substance use services.
3. Mock crash in Green Bay shows dangers of impaired driving (wbay.com) — Green Bay first responders teamed up on Stuart Street for a dramatic mock crash, highlighting how impaired driving endangers both residents and emergency crews. Police, fire, and Casa ALBA Melanie walked community members through vehicle extrication, sobriety checks, and real crash statistics, including 69 impaired-driving crashes and 55 injuries this year. Organizers stressed that even one person choosing not to drive impaired can save lives.
4. Packers vs. Cancer marks 10 years, rallying fans for lifesaving research (943jackfm.com) — The Green Bay Packers are marking 10 years of their Packers vs. Cancer campaign, raising money for UW Health's Carbone Cancer Center through special winter hats and in-store donations. Fans can give at the Packers Pro Shop or online throughout October, with a dedicated game against the Cowboys on Oct. 18 highlighting survivors. Players will also visit Bay Port High School for a cancer-awareness matchup with West De Pere.
5. Two-time cancer survivor says early detection saved his life (nbc26.com) — A Green Bay man who survived cancer twice credits routine screenings and quick medical follow-up with saving his life, and he's urging neighbors not to skip checkups. Supported by local doctors and the Packers community, he and his oncologist at the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic stress that early detection and attention to unusual symptoms can dramatically improve outcomes.
