Ask What Your Country Can Do For You

Our country was built on equality, not equalization.

Simply put, the election in November for president and other national offices are about whether you want the control of your own future or if you want the government to control your future.  The past three years has been a clinic on how to take the environment that built our country and replace it with the environment that is destroying Europe.  That new environment is the dependency on a centralized government to bring home your bacon.  A government designed to provide the non-producers with the product of the producers at the expense of the producers.  It creates a society whose people gravitate downward towards the non-producers because it is always easier to live off the hard work of others.

Recently in a campaign stop, in Parma, OH, Obama made the following statememt regarding his and Michelle’s families:

What stood out to me immediately was the use of the word country as if it is the Big Brother from which all good things must come.  Who provides you with your reward?  Country.  Who was designed to provide you with opportunity and success?  Country.  Essentially, the country is both the provider of your favorable circumstances and the distributor of outcomes.

Some may think that I am being overly harsh based on Obama’s statement.  That instead the president meant to use the word ‘country’ as a vague statement rather than a representation of the ruling body as I am presenting.  Yet, later in the same speech he outlines how this system of government establishes rewards and opportunities:

“And that means providing a hand-up for middle-class families –- so that if they work hard and meet their responsibilities, they can afford to raise their children, and send them to college, see a doctor when they get sick, retire with dignity and respect.”

What exactly is ‘a hand-up for the middle-class’?  Well is it not a hand out?  That might not mean the US Government cutting a check to the middle class; however, it does (as Obama is currently proposing via the Bush tax cuts that are about to expire) allow the government to use a higher percentage of income from the upper class.  The progressive tax policy within the US is designed as a system by which the hand out becomes the unequal payment for government services that are for the most part enjoyed equally.

Continuing with his quote, the middle class is able to reap these benefits if they ‘meet their responsibilities’.  If as an American you read that statement and don’t choke at the tyranny our president is offering, let me explain.  Currently, the level of success you attain is not determined by a set of obligations you have to the government.  Your success is built on your own drive and desire to attain more.  If we suddenly make hard work and desire are only a portion of what determines the outcomes of your life, but must be taken into account with certain governmental obligations; the freedoms you had for success are gone.

Those freedoms of success are taken away by the enticement of rewards the president wishes to give those who meet these governmental responsibilities.  The government will provide money to, ‘raise their children’…’send them to college’…’see a doctor’… and ‘retire’.  As the government becomes more and more involved in these institutions the costs will continue to rise.  We can look at the systems already established by the government in these areas and see the cost increases already in progress.  Those not taking the benefits from the government are forced to pay a higher cost and pay an unfair burden for those in our society who are willing to sacrifice freedoms in exchange for government benefits.

The President’s desire is to restrain the success of the individual because individual success requires by nature that some will not succeed at equal heights.  In that desire he will turn the US into a country where equality in outcome and the false idea of fairness trumps individual success and equality of opportunity.  The country was never built to reward and our country was never built on the promise of upward mobility; rather, this country was built on the truth that all men were created equal and thus all men should have equal opportunity to greatness.  Government cannot make man more any more equal then God/nature intented.

In a society where people have chosen equal outcome of its citizens as the goal, that goal has never been attained.  Alternatively, those societies have reduced their own freedoms, reduced their own abilities for greater success and lost personal responsibility in favor of social government control.  This is the president’s goal and the choice facing you in November; freedom on the Romney ticket or government control in the Obama ticket.
