Canterbury, Highland View Earn Recognition for Behavior Supports Programs

The goal is to build staff knowledge and skills to support all learners, while using data to more quickly identify and provide support.

GREENDALE, WI – Building a school culture that supports the emotional and behavioral needs of its students can be challenging with the wide range of abilities and emotional backgrounds in even a single classroom.

This year, Canterbury and Highland View Elementary Schools have been recognized by the Wisconsin RtI Center for their work in successfully building a school-wide framework of supports accomplished through implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).

By establishing this framework, these schools are increasing the consistency of effective instruction for all students, building staff knowledge and skills to support all learners, using data to more quickly identify and provide support for students, and shifting to a culture that supports stronger relationships with students and their families. National research shows that full implementation of this type of framework leads to improved student outcomes.

For the third consecutive year, Canterbury was recognized for this work and received a Silver level award. In its second year of PBIS, this is Highland View’s first year of recognition, earning it a Bronze level award.
