GRAEF received the βInnovations in Planningβ award from APA-WI for the Sustainable Development Guidebook GRAEF prepared for Drexel Town Square, an 85-acre site located in downtown Oak Creek, Wis. The guidebook provides comprehensive information covering sustainability and green infrastructure plans for developers. The City of Oak Creek and the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewage District (MMSD) enlisted the help of GRAEFβs planning group to develop a plan for an economically successful and environmentally sustainable town center. The guidebook provides diagrams and photos to aid the green infrastructure planning process and meets the long-term sustainability goals for MMSD, while providing a plan for a major redevelopment within the City of Oak Creek.Β

Huebner, a third year student in the joint Architecture and Urban Planning Masters program at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, received the βStudent Projectβ award, which recognizes an outstanding student planning project.Β Huebnerβs final thesis, titled βNEXT STOP: Place-making along the Milwaukee Streetcar route,β identified βnodesβ along the streetcar line and proposed urban design solutions for each, including new development proposals at vacant sites and ideas for further strengthening existing buildings and places.
