Greendale High School Switches To Spring Baseball

Other teams are switching to Spring baseball due to busy summer schedules and players opting for travel team ball during the summer.

GREENDALE, WI — Just call them the "boys of spring." The Greendale High School baseball team will play its final summer season in 2018.

According to a Journal Sentinel report, the team will switch to spring baseball in the 2019 season - the first team in the Woodland Conference to make the switch.

Citing busy summer family schedules and the propensity for more talented players to opt for travel-team ball during the summer, the nearby Oak Creek High School baseball team, a four-time summer state champion, announced it would make the jump to spring baseball for 2019.

"The travel ball situation is a factor; I'm not going to say it's not," Oak Creek coach Scott Holler said to the Journal Sentinel. "It's strange because (coaches will point out) we haven't had the problem of losing kids, but the truth of the matter is, we have been affected. It does affect our program. The competition at lower levels is down.
